Unstoppable Copier is a free software specialized in the recovery of files from damaged discs. Both hard drives as CDs/DVDs.
On certain occasions when trying to copy files from a hard disk or CD, we find that the Operating System informs us that there are read errors on the source disk, and that may not be able to copy the selected files/directories. In these cases we need a tool that is able to read the files of the source disc, and try to retrieve the information of those files.
Unstoppable Copier is used to recover the information from files that can not be read. We must not confuse this program with other data recovering software that recover files that have been deleted from the hard drive. This program does not recovers files that have been deleted, but it recover those files that are corrupt and the Operating System can't read.
A file may be corrupt because the Disk sectors are defective, or due to the CD/DVD has some scratches.
The use of the program is very simple, so we just need to choose the origin disk (or directory), and destination. If we are trying to recover data from a hard disk, we must make sure that the destination of the recovered files is other hard disk different than the origin, because the latter may contain bad sectors, and therefore, the recovered files can be corrupted when storing it on that hard disk.
Once we have selected the source and destination, press the button “Copy”, and the recovery process will begin. It will not be necessary to intervene in this process, since it is automatic.
During the files recovery process, the program will display in the bottom of the window, a series of stats about the recovery process. Some of the data shown on these statistics are; Files copied, Corrupt files, good Bytes copied, corrupted Bytes copied, Read errors, successful Writes, and more.
The program has the option to make a batch files recovering (batch Mode). This means that we will be able to choose multiple drives/folders from which to retrieve the corrupt files. We will choose one of the drives/folders to recover, and once added to the list, we can start with the process of recovery. The program will be processing and copying the files from the drives/folders one by one.
The program has a series of options that allow us to keep all the information from the original file. These options are: Keep Attributes, Keep Owners and Maintain Time/Date.
Another interesting option is the “File Not Damaged First”. This option allows to recover first those files that are not damaged. This way, during the first minutes of the copying process, files that have a good state will be copied first, and at the end of the process the files that have some type of damage will be copied. So if a corrupted file fails, and interrupts the copy process, at least we will have recovered all the files that do not have any default.
We have the possibility of vary the accuracy of the file recovery. Higher precision, means higher time needed to try to recover defective files , and a greater percentage of success trying to recover the damaged files. If we want to vary the level of accuracy, we must go to the tab “Options” and move the bar to “Exhaustive Recovery”. This way we will have the highest percentage of successful recovery. If we move the bar to “Quick Recovery”, the files recovery process will be faster and less accurate.
This software despite being free and having a simple look, has proven to be one of the best programs to recover corrupted data, offering better results than other paid programs. Without a doubt, an essential software in any PC.
