    Review Widelands

Widelands is a real-time strategy game inspired by other previous games, such as Settlers, in which you will have to demonstrate your ability to improve local transport by building all kinds of roads. In effect, the only way you have to beat the system's artificial intelligence is to show that you have the necessary knowledge so that the city's transport does not collapse.

Our mission will then be to optimize the means that move all the resources within the area assigned to us because it belongs to our empire. As the highest local authority, you have to ensure that food, and other materials, such as wood, iron, or gold, reach their destination on the days and at times indicated so that life makes its way for the local citizens.

However, unlike other titles that could be close in terms of the proposal to Widelands, we must say that this one has two different game modes, which will have to be selected when the game starts, of course. We have the first instance, the Single Player Mode , and then the Multiplayer Mode , allowing you to choose whether you want to compete online or through a network of servers.

Even before that, if you have had problems learning how to play this game or want to know how to do it before starting, you have to know that there is a section in which you can perform different illustrative missions. Thus, with this initial introductory tutorial, you can learn all the tricks and moves without risking your money or the prestige you have earned.

Within the world of Widelands, we then find three tribes and four different worlds within which all the action on which this game is based can take place. To give them names, we should say that the tribes are the Barbarians, the Imperials, and the Atlanteans, from which we shall have to select one, and the different worlds are called Greenland, Winterland, Blackland, and Desert.

The problem is that as our economy grows, the enemies will take note of it and will want to attack us, at which point you will have to learn the art of attack and defense for your survival.

This real-time strategy game with management elements draws attention then because it not only forces us to move raw materials and food, but when the time comes, we will have to fight for them on the battlefield. But as everything is connected, if we want our troops to be well equipped to defend ourselves, it will be necessary to send the materials to build their weapons through different means of transport.

That said, you shouldn't expect the combat system in this title to be too well achieved, as it's merely a matter of completing what mattered to its developers, the resource management issue. We liked that they added this particularity of putting at risk the progress obtained through confrontations with other local tribes.

To give you an idea of how simple the combat method is, you have to know that the side that has managed to generate the most significant number of military units will be the winner in all confrontations. That is to say, if you want to ensure a victory on the battlefield, you must pay attention to the number of available soldiers of the opponent and make your troops more numerous.

The game's maps seemed to us to be one of its positive aspects since they are huge, and we can explore a lot of terrain towards any of the cardinal points, so your progress will stop only where you decide. Beyond that, we also wanted to praise the music, which, unlike other games where it is annoying because it is repetitive, in this case, accompanies very well all our adventures.

As for the Widelands graphics, we can say that while they are not exactly wrong, we do miss the level of detail that other management games have reached in these times, and even in their own. The reality is that everything is a bit square and obsolete. However, that also generates minimal resource consumption for the game; therefore, we can install it on almost any computer.

In conclusion, we are sure that Widelands is a lovely proposal when we think of resource management games, one that stands out for its simplicity and for the addition of combats with the tribes near our area. If you don't care too much about graphics and want to know your ability to generate roads that favor the transportation of goods, this is undoubtedly the game for you.
