There is absolutely no doubt that the Nintendo 8 bits have been one of the essential consoles in history, and although today there are few of these machines working, the truth is that we do not need them to enjoy their games. This is due to the enormous amount of emulators designed for our PC, which is undoubtedly one of the most successful in FCEUX.

As we said then, FCEUX is nothing more than an open-source emulator specially designed for us to enjoy on our computer some of the most famous titles of NES, such as NES, NFS, FDS, and UNF. And as it is a free project, we will not have to pay to install or use it, and if we have the necessary knowledge, we can modify its code to customize it even more.

How does it work?

Besides that, we say that FCEUX is one of the best programs of its kind because it has all the original features of the Nintendo console, plus some additions to improve our user experience. For example, it has no problem allowing us to open ROMs stored in the compression applications' archives, such as RAR or ZIP.

By now, you will have realized, on the other hand, that FCEUX is one of those emulators that do not have the titles integrated into its platform, but we have to download them from some of the websites dedicated to it. Anyway, it is as simple as downloading those ROM to our computer and opening them since there is no need to develop any intermediate step.

Something that we have loved about FCEUX is that not only can we have fun on our own once we have run the ROM of our favorite title, but we also have the option to challenge another person. Just as you read it, this emulator will allow you to play with another user through its functions, as long as both are connected to the same local network or Internet.

FCEUX also differs from other similar emulators because it has an essential feature that will allow us to do without complementary programs: the recording of the games without having to leave its menus. We are in the presence of software, thanks to which we can record our games in formats AVI or WAV according to our preferences and then manage those videos as we wish.

The user interface of FCEUX is well done, considering that it does not add more elements than the essential ones to open any ROM that we have downloaded and launched our favorite games from this platform. To that, we would add its low consumption of system resources and course, ease of use, and compatibility with almost any game of NES.

The worst

FCEUX has minimal weaknesses, although we know that one of them is related to the fact that it does not contain integrated games, we have to download the ROM of each of them individually to enjoy them. Outside of that, perhaps it is worth stopping only because it does not have as many customization options when emulating as other similar applications. Still, it is nothing serious, of course.

Rating

If you want to re-experience the entertainment sensations of the 8-bit Nintendo, enjoying an emulator compatible with practically all its games, easy to use, free, and that does not consume a lot of your system's resources, there are few better options than FCEUX. An ideal emulator to turn that old computer you have at home into a fun machine with support for many of the essential classics in history.
