Some may no longer remember, but when the folks at Microsoft released their latest version of Windows, Windows 10, to the world, the upgrade was almost forced for many users. The Redmond company intended that most of its customers would have the most recent version of its environment and thus be safe from possible threats.

In other words, Microsoft wanted to make sure that all the vulnerabilities that had appeared in recent times, and for which Windows 8.1 and its previous versions were not prepared, could be combated. That is why, with Windows 10, we witnessed one of the most pressured campaigns by this company to install the update free for several months.

However, the curious thing was that while Microsoft put more pressure, more users complained about the constant Windows update recommendation messages, and some decided to take matters into their own hands. Thus, several small applications arose to prevent Microsoft from continuing to bother us, and probably one of the most famous was the one called Kill-Update.

The name of the program itself explains a bit about how it works. However, we can tell you that it was designed to eradicate the messages and suggestions to update the operating system that those of us who did not yet have Windows 10 installed on our computers received. And although it was not the only software to try to give us a hand in these cases, it was probably the most popular.

How it works

Once we install Kill-Update, we can enable or disable the update recommendations from the people at Microsoft, at least those related to Windows 10. It is worth noting that so far, we cannot confirm whether this application will also be able to perform the same type of action with the versions that follow Windows 10.

Something curious about Kill-Update is that it is a system that does not have its interface, but when we install and run it, it will be integrated into the Taskbar of our Windows computer to be opened from there. All you have to do then is click on its icon, allowing you to enable or disable the update notifications from Microsoft when you consider it appropriate.

Kill-Update monitors all the changes that Microsoft tries to make to prevent us from blocking its update suggestions, so you have absolutely nothing to fear in this type of case. This is one of the main reasons we say that there is an almost definitive solution to the insistence of the American firm for us to renew our current operating system.

And best of all is that the Kill-Update Settings can be modified as you see fit, so you will not always have to keep those updates disabled, but if you expect any critical updates, you can re-enable them. All, as we said, by clicking on its icon in the Taskbar .

The Kill-Update interface, as we said earlier in the review, is nonexistent since the only thing we can see is a small icon from which the few customization options we have at hand are triggered. Although there is indeed no design to analyze, taking into account that the only thing we intend to prevent Microsoft from driving us crazy with so many ads is that we are going to give it a pass in this aspect.

The best

The central positive aspect of Kill-Update is the first by which we must judge a utility with such a clear objective as eliminating Microsoft's operating system update suggestions, and it has to do with its efficiency. Indeed, it promises that we won't have to put up with these ads and recommendations, taking care of them with astonishing accuracy.

The worst thing

Although we have been explaining it is a tool that stands out for how basic it is, in general terms, we miss some more options regarding the configuration and customization of its use. For example, we believe it wouldn't have been bad if you could select what kind of warnings are enabled, disabling only some of them. Unfortunately, this is impossible with this application.

Kill-Update ends with the annoying ads and recommendations from Microsoft to download and install Windows 10 on your PC. It achieves this without too many difficulties, undoubtedly one of the best applications in its segment. It may not have many options to customize the user experience, but we believe most users will not need more.
