Although most of today's gamers may have never had one of these consoles in their hands, the Atari 7800 has managed to be one of the most famous of its segment in history. This video game machine was launched at the time for the company to regain users' preference after the enormous success that had previously reached the Atari 5200.

For many, because of its technical characteristics and enormous acceptance among gamers, it could be said that the Atari 7800 was the most important of all the company's consoles, at least within the mil series. In any case, the exciting thing is that today we can still enjoy some of the titles of this machine without even having to have it, thanks to emulators.

Just as there is a tremendous amount of emulation programs for Nintendo consoles or the first of the PlayStation family when we think of the Atari 7800, our variants are not so many. That's why we didn't want to stop recommending one of the best Atari 7800 emulators, if not the best, for Windows computers. We are talking about none other than ProSystem.

ProSystem is then an emulator, a program that can imitate other similar ones and different devices. In this case, it has been designed for us to enjoy the experience of the Atari 7800 again. Thanks to it, you can enjoy the same video quality as the original audio and the controls and controls, which are the least common in these cases.

Of course, you have to know that ProSystem is one of those emulators that do not come with built-in games but to enjoy any title released for this console that you like, you must upload the ROM yourself. Anyway, you don't have to worry about it since, on the web, you will find many ROMs of the best games for Atari 7800, and launching them from the emulator is not complicated.

More on the technical details, we have to say that ProSystem has been developed from C/C++ language, while it uses no more and no less than the API of Windows and DirectX, which ensures that the emulation is very, very real. Anyway, if you want to know more features in this regard, you have to know that its creators leave us available all the documentation to access them.

Another not minor aspect that we think you should consider in this regard is that ProSystem is an emulator capable of allowing us to enjoy the video modes, both NTSC and PAL, of the Atari 7800. This speaks very well of the application, considering that the arrival of the console in question to the PAL geographical areas was minimal, so we would not have been surprised if it could not adapt to them.

The ProSystem interface has less prominence than other programs, and we will see it until we launch some of the ROMs of the games we have decided to download. When the titles start, the graphics are the same as the originals, so it complies without problems, although you should know that in most cases, it will not let you enlarge the window to avoid losing visual quality.

Keep in mind

Although ProSystem is an emulator that, as we have seen, has all the necessary elements to allow us to enjoy the games of the Atari 7800 as if we had it at home, you should know that it will no longer be updated. The project, which ceased development several years ago, has left the source code available for others to continue tweaking it, but so far, no one has done so, so do not expect new features shortly.

The best

ProSystem has many exciting features, such as support for NTSC and PAL modes and support for the vast majority of titles once released for the Atari 7800 console.

The Worst

We haven't found any significant flaws in our experience using ProSystem, beyond the fact that, as we mentioned before, it is software that will no longer be updated, so the knowledge it can offer today will be the final one.

ProSystem is one of the best emulators of its kind; there is no doubt about that. If you have long wanted to recreate the fun that the Atari 7800 was capable of and have never used an emulator before, with this one, you will be entertained in just seconds.
