Review UltraISO
UltraISO is an application that allows us to generate our ISO images from CD or DVD and edit or open them if necessary. If you are looking for a platform that will enable you to have such a large amount of information, and you need compatibility with most of the formats in the segment, you should know that we are in the presence of a tool that probably has no rivals.
First of all, this software will allow you to open most of the disk images you need or want to work with, taking into account that, as we said, it is compatible with almost all the known formats in the field, such as the following:
- ISO
- BIN
- IMG
- MDF
Beyond that, with UltraISO, you can modify those disk images you have opened or create your own when you believe it is convenient. This application's versatility transforms it into a real Swiss army knife for this procedure. Thanks to it, you can change files, modify them, move them from one place to another, etc., from a single space.
To give you an idea of what we are talking about, this program allows us to treat the ISO images as if they were just another folder on the computer. In this way, it is possible, for example, to take all the files and extract them directly to the hard disk, something that would be unthinkable in other situations. Keep in mind, however, that the free version of this program has a limit of 300 MB per ISO image.
At the same time, it is a tool that has a built-in converter. Thanks to this function, it will be possible to convert the disk image files between different formats if, for some reason, we need to convert them from one to another. This utility is especially interesting for users who later have to work with other programs that only accept one particular format, discarding the others.
Creating ISO images is also possible with UltraISO. This is one of its most famous functions since you can generate this element from any of your folders on your computer's hard disk. Not only that, but you can also create and modify bootable disks. How? You will have to extract the boot sector, of course.
As for the program's interface, we must say that it is probably not the most successful compared to its competitors, at least in visual terms. Then, finding its functions is quite simple, so it is intuitive even for novice users. The exciting thing is that the Toolbar sections are well differentiated from those of the disk image created or opened from the folders we have on our computer.
A detail that has seemed attractive to us, beyond the interface itself, is that this software integrates into the environment of Windows so that when you have an image of type ISO, it will automatically detect the format. When you right-click on it, for example, you will see that among the usual options; there are also all the ones related to this program so that you can run them directly from the file.
How much does the paid version of this program cost? According to its developers, to access all the functions of this application, as well as to leave behind some of the limitations it has, we will have to pay $29.95. In this way, we will overcome, for example, the problem of not being able to record images larger than 300MB, which is possibly the most significant difference between the free version and the paid version of UltraISO.
Other differences or advantages of the unlocked version of the program have to do with getting continuous free updates of the program, ideal not only for the new features but also for the peace of mind that this means in terms of security. At the same time, paying the cost of this software will give you access to unlimited technical support to resolve any questions of use that may arise.
In our experience of use, UltraISO has had no installation or execution problems since there have been no screen freezing or delays in the response when carrying out some of the requested actions. This is highly recommended if you have to perform tasks with disks.
If we add to that the fact that this program is fully compatible with all the following formats: VC4, MDS, DAO, FDC, LCD, VDI, CIF, ISO, BIN, NRG, CCD, BWT, TAO, CDI, VCD, and VaporCD, it is clear why it is a reference.
