Review Vegas
Sony Vegas is a professional video editor with many features and options.
In the video editors world, Sony Vegas is one of the more veteran and mature editors on the market. Created by Sonic Foundry company in 1990, this video editor has managed to grow, evolve, and adapt to the needs of increasing users who demand professional and serious video editor software. The fact that Sony acquired the company Sonic Foundry in 2003 indicates the level of demand that developed this product. With more than two decades behind, we can say that this program is intended for anyone who wants to edit videos professionally and effectively.
The program's main window is divided into several sections that we can configure to adapt to our needs.
At the bottom is the track editor, where we can drag and drop video, audio, or image files. We can add multiple tracks to include all the elements we want to appear in the edited video.
In the top right, there's the video preview window that shows in real-time all the changes, special effects, transitions, and filters applied to the video without having to render the video to see the results.
In the top left is a file browser where we can locate the files that will be included in the video; we will also see all the files that are part of the current project.
The program stands out for its simplicity and usability, allowing a very intuitive and agile video edition. The possibility of using a keyboard and mouse together makes the software very accurate, and any user with a minimum experience with PCs can control it within a few minutes of use.
One of the program's main features is the number of included transitions and video/audio plugins. Among other video effects, the program includes movie effects, blur, mirror, fill light, glare, sepia, pixelate, deform, whirlpool, black-and-white, and more. These effects can be applied in chains, one after the other, adding the results of each effect to the effects previously applied. The audio effects that can be applied are numerous: chorus, distortion, echo, reverb, change of pitch, vibrato, and more. Audio effects can also be chained together one after the other.
Transitions are also multiple: blinds, fold, roll, sweep clock, linear sweep, dissolution, spiral, push, iris, zoom, and more.
When we choose any of the effects or transitions available, we can preview the result they have on the video in the preview window, change parameters, and check the results immediately.
The program allows importing videos directly from a video camera so that we can dump the video camera's content in the program and start editing right away. Another interesting option regarding media import is the possibility of extracting audio tracks from music CDs, so we can easily include our favorite song of the Original Sound Track that we love in the videos.
Another trump card of Sony Vegas is the amount of rendering templates available. These rendering templates allow us to save the edited video at different resolutions, quality, and formats. The templates are numerous and varied. We can save in the following video formats: .avi, .rm, .wmv, .mpg, .mp4, and more. The program allows saving our videos directly on Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) video game console. To do this, we must connect PSP via USB to our PC, click on “Export to PSP,” and click on “Ok.” The program will generate a video file compatible with PSP and save it in the video game console.
It is worth noting the possibility of exporting our video directly to Youtube. To do this, we need to click on the “Upload to Youtube” option, and a window will appear; here, we must enter our user name on Youtube, password, and video data. This option is very useful for the vast amount of Youtubers that make use of this program to edit and create their videos.
The program has many options; here, we only have scratched the surface. To check the versatility of this program, it is best to download 30 days demo and check all tools and utilities for video editing included in the program. To install the demo version, we must fill in the data required on the first screen of the installer.
